About my art

My figurative practice explores the space between childhood and adulthood, memory and imagination. Through painting and illustration, I create narrative worlds shaped by personal experiences, observations and stories shared with me by others, exploring how memory influences our sense of identity, belonging and home.

I am drawn to ordinary moments that take on emotional significance over time: childhood games, family relationships, animals, familiar places and fleeting experiences that somehow remain with us. Children and animals often inhabit my work, becoming characters through which I explore freedom, vulnerability, transformation and our evolving relationship with who we once were.

Rather than reconstructing the past literally, I allow memory and imagination to intertwine. Colour, symbolism and elements of fantasy transform familiar scenes into subjective worlds, echoing the way memories themselves change over time. Details fade or disappear, others become exaggerated, and sometimes the feeling of a moment becomes more vivid than the event itself.

Storytelling sits at the heart of my practice. I am interested in giving visual form to experiences that might otherwise exist only in recollection, whether drawn from my own life or entrusted to me by others. Through these reconstructed worlds, I explore the connections we carry with people, places and earlier versions of ourselves, and the quiet ways in which the past continues to live within the present.

Estefany Cuadros is a London-based figurative artist of Colombian heritage, raised in Spain. Working under the name E. Cuadros, she creates paintings and illustrations exploring childhood, memory, identity and the shifting space between reality and imagination. Her surname, Cuadros ,meaning “paintings” or “pictures” in Spanish, has become a natural part of her artistic identity.

Her creative journey developed through illustration and bespoke commissions, including several years creating hand-painted wearable art for the wedding industry. These one-of-a-kind pieces transformed personal stories, places and imagery into wearable artworks, with her work featured in Your East Midlands Wedding magazine. She has since expanded her freelance practice through commercial illustration commissions, working particularly in watercolour to create bespoke imagery for clients. These experiences continue to inform the narrative and highly personal approach of her wider practice.

Today, E. Cuadros focuses primarily on figurative painting and illustration. Characterised by a saturated, expressive colour palette, her work draws from personal memories, observations and stories shared with her by others. Through colour, symbolism and elements of imagination, she transforms familiar moments and environments into narrative worlds where memory and reality begin to overlap.

Her current practice develops across interconnected bodies of work. An evolving series draws on childhood memories shared by Latin American immigrants living in London, exploring how memories of family and place become enduring connections to identity, belonging and home. Alongside this, her floral figurative works explore femininity, resilience and female empowerment, using flowers and the natural world as symbols of strength, transformation and growth.

Her work has been exhibited in London, including Colour at Gallery 35 and Finding Space, presented by Passion Project Collective.

E. Cuadros lives and works in London.
