Hurting Beauty explores the fragile relationship between pain, beauty and transformation. At its centre, a heart bleeds as flowers emerge from and around it, turning an image of hurt into one of growth. Butterflies touch the heart, suggesting change, freedom and the possibility of becoming something new through experiences that leave their mark on us.
The work reflects the recurring tension within my practice between vulnerability and resilience, and between reality and imagination. I often use elements of nature alongside figurative and symbolic imagery to give emotional experiences a visual language. Here, flowers and butterflies are not simply decorative symbols of beauty: they coexist with the wounded heart, suggesting that beauty can grow alongside pain rather than erase it.
Hurting Beauty inhabits that space between tenderness and discomfort, where something can be wounded, changing and blooming at the same time.
