A Window Back Home is inspired by a childhood memory shared with me by a Mexican immigrant living far from the place he once called home. As a child, his grandmother would leave him at home while she went to the market, always worrying that he would climb onto the window ledge. When she returned, she would often find him there, playing his harmonica.
Rather than recreating the memory exactly, I imagined it through the fragmented and emotional nature of recollection. The vivid architecture, quiet street and small everyday details create a place that feels both real and slightly dreamlike.
The window becomes a connection between different moments in time: the child absorbed in his own world, the grandmother returning below, and the adult who carries this image with him years later. The work considers how an ordinary childhood moment can become a lasting connection to family, place and home.
