Unapologetically Blooming is a celebration of Latin American femininity, exploring strength, beauty, sensuality and the freedom to occupy space without apology.
Colombian orchids bloom across the woman’s face, becoming part of her rather than simply adorning her. Connected to my Colombian roots, the flowers embody a tension that interests me: they appear delicate, yet are vibrant, resilient and impossible to overlook. The figure and flowers merge into a single presence, suggesting a woman whose identity is not something to conceal or diminish, but something allowed to grow freely.
The work reflects the idea of blooming on our own terms, boldly, imperfectly and visibly , and finding strength in the parts of ourselves that connect us to where we come from.
My wider practice uses figurative painting, colour, nature and recurring symbolic elements to explore identity, memory and belonging. Drawing particularly from my Latin American heritage and experiences of migration, I am interested in the space between past and present, and in how memories, places and cultural identity continue to shape who we become.
